Not only are you taking away a time honored tradition of a strong D1 university, but you are ending the dreams of many athletes to play college football and may even end their dream of obtaining a higher education. In effect, you are promulgating the idea that numbers are more important than your student athletes. This reinforces the vicious cycle that resonates all too frequently in the college sports arena- unless you produce, you do not matter. Shame on you UAB.

I'm a UAB alumi and the football program has worked too hard to turn itself around the players and coaches have a ton of heart and the program had a promising future. But getting rid of the Football program doesnt just hurt the football player losing their scholarships and team it also hurts the female sports affected by the elimination of so many scholarships this decision need to be reconsidered because the University is going to get a big backlash from this. You dont hurt your own like you did today. This is horrible for Birmingham in general.

i believe it is unnessecary, along with the rest of the damn country, that you take away football from this school. From experience in college sports i know how difficult it is to train and get yourself better every day but i could never imagine the best sport ever created being taken from me. Put the team back.

Horrible, non-competetive decision by UAB Board. Is this the message that you really want to send for the University, the Birmingham community, and for the increased fan base of UAB athletics? UAB is a tremendous educational institution, but this move out of competition and in complete disregard to commitments made to student athletes that proudly represent UAB, based solely on saving dollars, isn't worthy of UAB's higher goals and ideals. Bill Clark is obviously the right guy to lead the program and has reinvigorated interest in the program after a couple of terrible coaching hires. Did you not notice the increased fan interest? Did that not matter? Stanford, Navy, Harvard, Vanderbilt, Emory, Georgia Tech, are all tremendous educational institutions and, though competition at the highest levels of athletics can be tough and even expensive, all of these institutions have leadership who UNDERSTAND the importance of competitive athletics to generating interest in the institution and in representing the I-D-E-A-L-S of the school. I think you have chosen a course that will be more costly to UAB than you can imagine right now in a short-sighted attempt to save a few bucks. Horrible decision!!

I am not involved with UAB at all, but as a proud alum of another smaller school I am terrified that this is the future of college football. Athletics are the most recognizable and easiest way for alums to connecg and identify with their schools and in manh cases are pretty much the only national visibility we have. Save UAB football, save college football, save small school athletics.

As a student of the University of Southern Mississippi, the rival school of UAB, I would hate to lose the chance to watch our teams play and hear the band play. I also believe that no matter where you go or where you're from you deserve the same chances as anyone else.

It's my own outright belief that this program should stay! This program had made tememdoue strides to produce a quality football team! There has to be something done there has to be sometime of way the football program can be initiated. My best friend graduated from UAB and I am also a friend to a few prominent former football players. They Love UAB and would do anything to save the program! This can triculate down and effect all UAB conference sports.

Just because thus team is not the most popular team in Alabama, does not mean that it should not exist. Some students that are in the marching band and on the football team may have gotten a scholarship that would allow them to attend the school. Explain what would happen when they they lose that scholarship. Probably most of them might have to leave the school. Taking away this program may be taking away their future.
