Proud to be a Blazer! Makes me sick to think this is even a possibility! I cheered from 1996-2000 and coached the cheerleaders from 2003-2008. To this day, some of my GREATEST memories revolve around UAB football! Praying this all works out! I BLEED GREEN AND GOLD!!!

The BOT is similar to the Politburo of communist Russia or North Korea. Siphoning money to build Frat Houses and other toys for the Crimson Slime needs to stop as well as the majority of trustees being UA alum. Expose Paul Bryant and his yes boys for the criminals they are.

I helped to get the football program started years ago. Gene Bartow gave me football jersey with my name on it with number 25 used when I played high school football in Covington, La. It means sooo much to me. I have never worn it.
One must understand the negative control Alabama has always had over UAB. I remember during basketball play off UAB beat Bama and knocked them out of the national tournament.
The only thing Bama is interested in is the yearly billions of dollars that UAB provides. Just imagine what that would do for UAB if this university had that money for its own development!!!!!

Point of note: This issue is not a UAB vs. University of Alabama issue. Many Alabama grads agree that all schools should be able to freely manage their own affairs with a competent administration backed by a trustworthy board. Our issue is only with those people blocking UAB from investing in its own football program, which has consequently had a negative impact throughout UAB Athletics (through conference affiliation, most notably).

UAB Football had a direct influence on my ability to provide for my family today. Because of "Football," I received a full athletic scholarship and graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Psychology. The degree I earned while being a UAB Football student athlete is one of the first highlights listed on my resume.
Someone took a chance on me and because of that I am grateful and have maximized my experience. Not every student athlete is going to have the opportunity to play at the professional level but each one has the same opportunity to earn a degree and be as competitive in the workforce as any other student. The BOT needs to take a chance on UAB Football and allow future student athletes to be given the same opportunity. UAB 2001-2005. First Ever Bowl team 2004. Go Blazers!

Born and raised a Bama fan. Will always root for the Tide. Despite being a UA fan since childhood, UAB success (mere competitiveness actually) has excited me more than Bama championships. Being an alumni, 2010 graduate, there was little to cheer for during my years there. The program showed so much potential in it's first decade just to be neglected in the past decade to this point. And now, on the cusp on bowl eligibility, with a coach everyone is standing behind, who has quickly earned his pay and has the team showing so much potential, this possibility? The students, alumni, and city deserve better. Give the program a fair chance. - Stephen Scott, Captain, US Army, deployed and proudly flying my Blazer flag.

This is the only college football team I care about. If you shut it down, I will have no one to cheer for. Do you really want that on your conscience? GO BLAZERS!!!

I attended what I think was the first UAB football game. It was well before we had a true team and I think it was considered a "club sport"? We want to Samford's stadium and played the Samford JV team. It has definitely come along way. I hope that it allowed to continue to grow and be an important part of UAB and the city of Birmingham as well.

So I was posting with my phone and I can't figure out how to go back and fix my post. I married the most amazing man- met him at UAB playing football and I danced as a Golden Girl. He passed away from leukemia in 2006- fought his battle just like he did on the football field. Please don't take this program away- so many lives would be affected!!! Kirk Tuck walked on and fought his way to a starting position!! I haven't met any other players and coaches that fight more than our UAB football program!!!

I played baritone sax in the Marching Blazers in 1997 & 1998.
I remember tuning in to 107.7 FM for the very first NCAA sanctioned D3 UAB football game vs. Millsaps in 1991. I was 14 years old and I lived in Hartselle at the time. I was helping my dad wash his car in the driveway and just so happened to turn the radio to 107.7 FM right when the pregame radio broadcast started. I listened to the entire radio broadcast from that very 1st game and I have been hooked on UAB football ever since.
My dad wasn't alive to see me become a member of the Marching Blazers (he passed away from ALS in March 1997 before I transferred to UAB), but the day before he died, I promised him that I would finish my mechanical engineering degree at UAB and play in the band.
On a side note, I attended UAH in 1995-1996 and played baritone sax in the UAH hockey pep band. That was the season that UAH hockey went undefeated and won the D2 hockey national championship. I have a lot of love for UAH, too, even thought I didn't graduate from there. It broke my heart when the UA Board of Trustees tried to kill UAH hockey. Fortunately, UAH hockey was rescued from its death sentence by the WCHA hockey conference, but I haven't forgotten what the UA BOT did to UAH hockey. They are still trying to recover from the negative effects of that situation. They have not been as competitive since they were forced to start the hockey program over from scratch.
