Continue Swim Instruction at Trinity Middle School

We want swim instruction at Trinity Middle School to continue during educational school hours.
On April 2, the Trinity Middle School (TMS) administration presented changes to curriculum for the 2015-16 school year. They recommended elimination of swim instruction thereby reducing the need for two Physical Education teaching positions.
We understand the need to cut costs. But we want the Trinity School District board, administration and
teachers to work together to develop a program to continue to offer swim instruction during school
hours. If additional funds are found, we would like your consideration for the addition of a third physical
education teacher to facilitate the likelihood of a workable plan for educational hours swim instruction. We
have many ideas including the hiring of a lifeguard, teaching only 6th or 6th and 7th graders, and teaching it
only certain quarters. Although swimming is not a core class, knowing how to swim saves lives. Many
students don't have resources or opportunities to learn this skill outside of school. Please continue swim
instruction at Trinity Middle School.
