It feels a bit discouraging to make sacrifices in order to protect our community and to see my family suffer for that. Even though I must juggle my own work schedule and that's challenging, my child has been thriving with the current virtual model. It feels so much more cohesive than the new plan.

If E-learning is to be at home at any time, it should be the same as it is right now. Otherwise, I want my kid back in school every day, as they should be anyway.

We moved back to the midwest for family reasons after 17 years. One of my stipulations was that we be in the PHM district, my wife went here and I remember seeing the contrast to my own school district when I was in high school toward nurturing students no matter what, as well many other reasons. PHM's start to this year has been top notch comparing to what some of our other friends are going through across the country. I was impressed and glad we made the choice. To fall back to a style sounding like what happened in the spring frankly feels like, "well we will let these kids fall by the way side, and then their parents will give in" at that point it will have been 'their choice' and the schools liability is covered.

Why can we not continue the synchronous virtual learning that we are already doing now so that my children stay in touch with their classmates? Your asynchronous virtual learning option is unacceptable.

As a former teacher, I applaud the teachers who were able to switch to teaching virtual. I realize the time and effort it has taken to prepare. I question why the school board kept referring to 72% of parents wanting to return to school. Wasn’t that survey done in June when covid was low in our county? Why wasn’t a new survey done before the last school board meeting to see what parents now feel. Every family has different issues to make decisions on- no decision is wrong. Also, why was the decision made before the holiday weekend. Why not wait to see what happens after the gatherings. Also, it was stated how fluid moving from one color to the next would be on the new state matrix. How fluid is the plan to move from in school to virtual if the bottom falls out in our county? What was the rational from moving from the county matrix to the state one? Is virtual learning optimal- NO. Are the teachers doing a good job! Absolutely. There are kids in the district who have compromised conditions who need to be home. PLEASE allow for quality education for the children who stay home. Not sure you have a plan that many teachers would agree that provide the students who stay home a quality education. A teacher might be able to do it if he/she never slept, ate or had any family life at all.

Asynchronous virtual learning is NOT is line with FAPE. We demand synchronous virtual learning available for ALL students.

I choose to keep my children home until the numbers in our county and state show a decline in cases and general adherence to safety procedures. That choice should not mean that my children are on their own the majority of the day while others are attended to each moment of the day. Please do not leave the virtual attending students to fall by the wayside... this is a choice for health and safety, not because we don’t want to be there.

It is so difficult in these unprecedented times for there to be a right and wrong answer for parents. Everyone has a different level of comfort. MY concern is that when the board talked of 72% of parents wanting a return- when was that survey? Was it when covid was low in our county? If so, why wasn’t a new survey of parents done, now that our numbers are higher. Why make a decision before Labor Day and not wait until we see what the holiday gatherings bring forth in covid cases. How about the teachers! I have seen the effort, and as a former teacher, can only imagine the hours of thoughtful plan it has taken. Now we are expecting them to switch totally. I think, erring on the side of caution would be the best. In the new PHM model, is there a smooth transition from virtual and in class to totally virtual if it becomes necessary. Many questions that were not addressed at the school board meeting.

We need to unite, to wear masks and stay distant to fight this. Not offering elearning comparable to in school learning is punishing families who recognize the need to protect themselves. They pay attention to science, which PHM should do as well.

Public education should be for all students. As an educator I know the positives and negatives of virtual vs in person learning. There are many reasons for parents to have a choice. Nobody knows what every family is going through and don’t condemn them for their decisions. Give them a CHOICE!
