Those of us who helped make organic farming a reality are distressed to see it used for just another form of industrialization. Organic farming is about preserving natural resourceds and protecting living things.

There are many things that could be contentious about the Organic standards. Tough decisions need to be made anytime a standard is set. What falls inside the standard? What should fall outside the standard? Soil must never, ever cease to be the central resource that the organic standards protect and cultivate. Organic standards began with the adage, quoted in this petition, "feed the soil". Hydroponic can never, ever feed the soil, because hydroponic production simply doesn't use soil. Hydroponic can never be organic because it can never steward the soil it doesn't use. I vehemently agree with this petition, and urge action.
