Speakers at the Rally in the Valley confirmed what I already knew to be true: hydroponic produce does not qualify as organic and to label it organic is unfair to organic growers and to consumers.

The primary tenet of organic farming is the practice of agriculutral while managing a healthy ecosystem. This does not take place in a factory or outside of the context of humans directly interacting with the earth.

Building the soil not only strengthens our food supply but strengthens the environment around us. While hydroponics is a great development it should not be considered organic.

Big agri-businesses with their unrestrained capitalist bottom-line philosophy of business is not serving the public and is actually harming national health. Subverting the intentions of the organic movement they scheme to dupe the public with their profitable but nutritionally devoid products taking advantage of a pathetically weak regulatory environment which they lobby to create.

How could anyone think that hydroponically raised vegetables are organically grown? USDA continues to be in the pocket of agribusiness, or they could never make such a ruling. What is "organic" about hydroponically grown vegetables - they are grown in water with chemicals added that, if added to the soil in which vegetables are normally grown would disqualify them from being labeled "organic". They are tasteless and I never buy them. Shame on USDA!

there's more to soil than just nutrients: plants need a full ecology to survive! hydroponic can be fun, but it's not the same as soil grown and should not be labeled as such.

There is no way hydroponics can be considered organic. This is an extremely artificial way of growing.
