I've paid alot money for this apple device, it costs more than any other mobile phone, so I should be able to do what I want with it, especially using the software I want, anytime.

I think it's up to the consumers for which iOS version to run. If Apple is against it, they should have downgrades disabled by default but provide a tool that lets you downgrade. I support the warranty being voided due to the possibility of bugs that were patched in future releases causing damage to components such as the battery.

For older iDevices, the ability to downgrade could make all the difference, as newer OSs take up way more processor/memory than older iterations. Of course, that's the point, to force you to upgrade.
