TuftsVOX: Voices for Choice, the Planned Parenthood College Campus Affiliate group, applied for TCU surplus funding to put condom vending machines in the on-campus residence halls. This appeal was voted down due to logistical problems with who would restock the machine and doubts about sustainability of the project when in the hands of a student group. Additionally, TCU felt that condom vending machines weren't related enough to student activities to justify funding the project. Some TCU senators agreed the matter is one the university administration should be handling. However, after asking Tufts Facilities if they would be willing to restock the machines they declined to do so. VOX has tried to put free condoms in the residence halls in the past and found this to be difficult to sustain due to students stealing the entire envelope of condoms. A vending machine would deter students from taking more than they need because of the small fee required. STIs and unwanted pregnancies are a national problem not just facing poor or uneducated communities. College campuses face high rates of STIs due to increased unsafe sexual behavior involving drugs and alcohol. Access to high-quality contraceptives at all times of day should be available to Tufts students to facilitate us in our efforts to lead safe and healthy lifestyles. Please help us convince the administration that condom vending machines in the residence halls is something Tufts students want and need by signing this petition. Please include your name,Tufts ID number, graduation year, Tufts email and on campus address. Please pass this along to as many people as possible.
