Condemning AUC administration’s coercion and termination of housekeeping staff

As an AUC alumnus (MA, IHRL, 2008) and as a former staff member of the AUC Center for Migration and Refugee Studies, I strongly object to the AUC administration's attempts to ignore the legitimate grievances of its own custodians. The AUC must never respond to labor grievances of any of its workers through threats to involve the Egyptian security state and other coercive tactics. The AUC cannot build a community dedicated to the purposes free inquiry and civic engagement so long as it clings to this elitist, anti-worker posture.

This is a disgrace for all of us in the alumni community. This was not what auc was founded upon, nor is this the same university I graduated on. This is unethical by all standards. I have worked at several multinational organizations in Egypt and abroad and I have never witnessed this sort of abuse that the university is inflicting on these working staff. Even if there is a need to let them go, there are many alternatives that auc failed to even consider. This is another sad blow to auc's reputation. This act alone has convinced me to not recommend this university as a place of education or employment at any level. AUC has shown me it has no regards to those that work or study there. All they care about is the money period..

It is unfair what is happening to those underprivileged individuals who served the AUC for decade, is this how AUC thank it's employees. This is just unbelievable coming from one of the supposedly best institutions in Egypt.

People like 3am farag has given his life for us! He and all the staff were each day cleaning after our architectural mess and taking care of our personal baggage we leave around! They are hard working trust worthy people and letting them go will be a mistake especially knowing that they won't be even properly acknowledged or compensated! This is not the way we should be an example as a "leading and educated" community, we should be better than this!

I stand in solidarity with auc workers and their right to their demands

I am outraged and disgusted by the actions of the administration. I am an international student and the events that unveiled the past month has shown me that AUC is not an institution I would want to be affiliate with nor encourage Americans to attend. This is disgraceful, shameful, immoral and we demand change.
