CONDEMN the "Drag Bingo" event hosted UW-River Falls and paid for by student funds!
This petition signifies support of the following message sent to all the University of Wisconsin River Falls administrators. There has been no constructive correspondence thus far from the administrators which is unacceptable, so we urge you all to sign this in solidarity.
"Chancellor Gallo, Cabinet members, and Dean of Students,
On behalf of the UW-River Falls College Republicans, a registered student organization, and the conservative students of the University of Wisconsin River Falls, we condemn and disavow the "Drag Bingo" event held by the Gender and Sexuality Alliance and DIB Office on the evening of Wednesday, October 11, 2023.
It is unconscionable that such an awful display would be supported with funding collected directly from the students of UW-River Falls, and hosted in the University Center, a building paid for and operated by students.
Had the event been funded privately and hosted in another academic building on campus, such an event would still be a display, beyond the character this campus strives for. The men hired for this outrageous performance on the night of the 11th demonstrated no academic quality, no wholesome entertainment, and no decency to the students attending the event or passersby at the University Center. The men referred to by their stage names as "Sasha Cassadine" and "Mercedes Iman Diamond" brought their crude language and vulgar appearance, passed off as "lighthearted entertainment," beyond the Pete's Creek venue and disturbed many students with their presence.
All of this being said, the "Drag Bingo" event disrespects the moral character of the students, the UW-River Falls campus, and the society at large. Even a cursory look at the public profiles of either man is remarkably offensive to one's own human decency. Neither man should be in a position to influence the aspiring young professionals and leaders of tomorrow who study at UW-River Falls. Furthermore, it is outrageous that such an unnecessary indulgence from specific groups on campus was allowed to take place in the namesake of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
For this reason, I urge you all, the administrators, of our historically reputable institution, to condemn this “Drag Bingo” event and ensure no subsequent events of this magnitude, manner, or vulgarity occur on our campus again. It is a disgrace to our university abroad and a stain on the University of Wisconsin Schools System.
Respectfully,
Brady Penfield,
UW-River Falls College Republicans Chairman"
