The Department of Transportation officially confirmed they will install the intermittent traffic light at the intersection. I am genuinely stunned that this happened so quickly and I know for a fact that this is entirely down to the persistence of everyone who signed. Please keep an eye on the intersection …
We the undersigned concerned parents of Hunley Park Elementary School strongly urge the South Carolina Department of Transportation ¬to re-consider installing an intermittent traffic light at the intersection of Dorchester Road and Michigan Ave. This light shall be an active traffic light between the hours of 7am-9am and 2pm-4pm Monday through Friday. All other times the light will serve as a flashing caution signal. Reasons are as follows; due to the increased traffic flow along Dorchester Road and the fact that there isn’t any form of “school zone” notification posted along Dorchester Road near Hunley Park Elementary and Riverbend Christian Academy. The most important reason for this request to have an intermittent traffic light installed is the growing safety concerns we as parents of Hunley Park Elementary have for our children as well as the daily commuters in the Dorchester Road and Michigan Ave area. We as concerned parents, citizens of North Charleston, state, and federal level tax payers strongly feel with an intermittent traffic light installed at Dorchester Road and Michigan Ave would greatly reduce the possibilities of an adult or a child being seriously injured or a fatality occurring at the above mentioned intersection.
Fix this intersection. Traffic is insane now that the school has grown.
