We, the citizens of Alamance County, stand with the Concerned Citizens of Alamance to denounce County Commissioner Tim Sutton’s racist and divisive comments and by our signatures, signify that we wish to dwell in a County of enlightenment and respect for all of her citizens. It is only through reasonable, thoughtful and accountable dialogue that the ills of any/all of our communities be resolved.
The silence from the commissioners is heavy but we are still documenting their apathy. Dealing with this local politics is exhausting work that takes a heavy toll on my spirit. We keep pushing because the standard for our county leadership cannot remain this low.

Reaching this point has been an exhausting uphill climb but seeing the momentum grow confirms that I am not fighting alone. My energy is running thin yet the persistence of this community keeps me focused on the goal ahead.

Mr. Sutton offers his family history as absolution, but it is possible to be friendly with someone you still consider to be inferior. The true face of the Confederate veterans of Alamance County was hidden by the masks they wore when they took the life of Wyatt Outlaw...a man who's story our community should get to know better!

I think enough is enough. Commissioner Sutton has outlived his usefulness and effectiveness on the board.

I hope that Mr. Sutton was actually referring to tenant farmers as some have suggested. To call slaves by any other name seems to me an attempt to whitewash a shameful period of American history.

They were slaves who worked for the Master. You can call it "political correctness", I call it facts!
