We, the undersigned citizens of Sierra Heights, have concerns that need to be brought to your attention.
We have grave concerns about the safety of pedestrians and children in the community. There are construction and delivery vehicles that drive very fast in and out of the community, especially on Sequoia Drive. Not only is this a safety concern, but it is very loud and obnoxious, makes a mess of the roads, and causes long term damage. Many of the roads are in a bad state of repair, have mud holes from trucks cutting corners, a damaged street signs from being hit by trucks.
We are recommending the following actions to remedy this situation:
a.) Install an additional construction entrance and egress on the far (undeveloped) side of the community and route all construction and delivery traffic through that entrance.
b.) Repair the roads and signs on the already developed side and pave a proper top coat of asphalt on the road surfaces.
c.) We understand that items a, b may take some time, so to partially remedy the problem in the interim, install speed limit signs and speed bumps throughout the community.
We also have concerns about the appearance of the neighborhood. The builder (Wade Journey) does not provide trash receptacles for the construction sites, and there are piles of trash everywhere. This blow all over the community and is an eyesore and an embarrassment.
We are recommending the following actions to remedy this situation:
a.) Provide construction dumpsters for the entirety of the building process.
b.) Enforce the use of dumpsters on contractors and subcontractors.
Another concern is landscaping. The Comfort Homes section has a lot of problems maintaining the current landscaping because of grading and top soil issues. Many of our banks have eroded and caved in. We are constantly fighting to keep what little grass that we have. The Wade Journey side is nothing short of a disaster. Many of the homes have such poor landscaping that they cannot even use their yards. We cannot have our children playing in a swampy clay mess. This is also causing major erosion problems any time that it rains.
We are recommending the following actions to remedy this situation:
a.) In the low lying area at the end of cul-de-sac and streets there should be catch basins for excess water as there is no actual storm water runoff system other than the yards. Also at the ends of the runoff areas proper trenching needs to be done so the water from the street and the rest of the homes is manageable at the end of the run. At both ends of Reno Ct the flow of water is washing away topsoil, landscaping, and in a lot of cases soil.
a. Install French drains to the end of the property line at the end of the runoff area.
b. Install catch basins at low points and corners where water pools.
c. Individual homes can install rain barrels on gutters to catch rain water for irrigation.
b.) Contractors should be required to install slit fences or fiber rolls so all the dirt and debris are not running into roads and clogging the drains. This is an overview of most ways to manage storm water and runoff. The most simple and quick temporary fixes are the fences and fibers.
