We the concerned parents and citizens of Southern Highlands, Las Vegas, NV request a meeting with Clark County School District (CCSD) Officials, CCSD Campus Police and the Las Vegas Police Department.

Over the course of the 2019-2020 academic school year there have been numerous threats of violence against many of the schools (elementary, middle and high schools). Fortunately, none of these threats have come to fruition. Nonetheless, with each additional threat the fear and uncertainty concerning the safety of our children and loved ones grows exponentially. Far too many times parents and others in the community are not communicated with timely in the event of a threat or not communicated with on the outcome thus leaving us without closure. The lack of communication and closure perpetuates fear for the safety of our children. Airing our speculation concerning these threats of violence over social media does little to bring us closer together in finding a solution that works for and assists all of us.

Through this meeting we would like to engage in a civil conversation to discuss possible strategies that would: 1) Communicate the threat of campus violence in a timely and appropriate manner, 2) Develop a system for closure in the event of a threat, 3) Reduce the opportunity for a violent act to occur and 4) Ensure there are systems in place that will promote the best possible outcome in the event that violence did occur.
