Hello all,
Raymond Jozwiak here. My above comment is nonsensical--I typed it from my iPhone and accidentally hit submit, unable to make edits. I would like to take an opportunity to explain what I meant to say, and to apologize to those who were offended by my remarks. In no way were my comments personal; however, I can see how they can come across as such. I had great teachers at the high school--with Mr. Wallace being the emblem of the entire district. I do not question the motives of any teacher, I know many to be hardworking and have respect for students as learners.
I rather meant to say that I believe quality teaching is grounded on the ability of an instructor to unambiguously explain the basic intuitive understanding behind the material. Because I have such a passion for seeing Gateway evolve, I wish all teachers have the aforementioned quality teaching ability. Taxpayers pay for the quality, and I stand by Mr. Chad Stubenbort in ensuring Gateway students are receiving the quality they deserve.
Again, I apologize for the poor wording of my comment, and I apologize to any teacher who had me as a student and were offended by it. I regret my error, and I am reminded of the extra time I was given by teachers to help me learn--I am very thankful for it.
Yet I will continue to advocate for delivering the highest quality to Gateway students and protecting taxpayers. Mr. Stubenbort and Mr. Nola--along with other members of the School Board--are leading the charge for quality education and protecting taxpayers: I stand with them.

And you obviously don't know a thing about the "learning' conditions at Gateway. The teachers should be paid more for the lack of discipline they put up with every day!

Gateway teachers are well paid more then other schools with the same amount of students or higher students. And these other schools have better scores in math and reading then gateway school district their student to teacher ratio is better then gateway. These facts can be found online all you have to do is look.

While the Gateway teachers are well paid, I believe that has given our community quality teachers. Many of the teachers give of there own time to support our students, lunch time, before school, after school etc. The teachers work hard to commnicate with familys using the computer system for homework. Pay is not the first thing that should be considered, when thinking about allowing a strike to occure. What about how that would affect our students! I think we have a good system going and we should think hard about how to maintain what we have.

While I can sympathize with teachers wanting a raise, the Gateway Teachers need to realize that the money well is going dry. Gateway used to graduate 1000 students. The tax base is shrinking and if taxes continue to go up the people that have the means to leave will leave.

Median income is down nearly $4,000 from 4 years ago. With declining test scores, a weak economy, and an increasing racial achievement gap, why should taxpayers give teachers a payraise? The money should be put into education--not higher teacher salaries. Teachers should, in fact, be required to contribute more to their health benefits; financial incentives should be offered for those who reside within the school district. As a graduate of Gateway HighSchool in 2011, I can say with certainty that there are only a handful of quality teachers at the high school. I will end my comments with a rhetorical question: if union advocates claim their focus is on the children, then why do theless money for inside the classroom?

I know the residents voted their displeasure with both councle and school board at the late election all of you that were elected were tasked to make change now is the time

Chad, I would be more than happy to sign the petition. My real estate taxes were increased last year and as a result my mortgage payment was increased $200. Enough is enough! The teach hers salaries and benefits are sufficient - especially with students being out of school during summer months

The level of benefits, especially the minimal contribution to health care insurance, is totally out of line. Something must be done. this is the year to get it under control.

Reading that the average pay of a Gateway School district teacher is $78,000/ and the teachers get Heath care for their family for less than $100 a month- I am in favor of keeping this level of compensation stable.

I'm still floored by salaries $20.000 over mine with 3 months without students in class, plus low healthcare costs! Obviously there are some people, whether the union of the teacher's themselves, need a reality check! I still want to believe that teachers WANT to help children, but they are bound to the union ideals - I just don't know if that belief is founded anymore.

It is no secret among people who know me that i am not a big fan of unions in most situations, but in this issue seems they will be doing their job by trying to protect the teachers interests and also make it that important things are not hindered even in a strike as mentioned. Its a shame it has come to this point because the real problem is in harrisburgh. I mean Corbit cut in places that shoule be the last area you touch and he left these hard choices up to the local powers. Any how money has to be saved somewhere and as a graduate of Gateway that got to enjoy things during a good ecconomic time i would hate to see the kids of this district not be able to enjoy all of the electives and vast opprotunities that many other districts simply cant or dont offer. Part of the problem is you dont want to lose our falculty either. Cutting peoples pay always a sketchy area. I hope that the next govenor of this state gets in and restores the education funding and takes this heavy weight off of our school board.

I am not in favor of another tax increase for the gateway school district. There needs to be budget cuts put in place on nonessential items threw out the district.

I'm friends with and appreciate out teachers; but the mistakes of the past,, such as dumping countless millions into sports has caught up to the district ! Had the teachers union stood up and fought when the " program " was put first this would not be an issue!
