Concerned Citizens for Caldwell
Petition to Mayor John Kelley and Members of the Caldwell Council:
Whereas, in light of the legal obstacles from the Presbyterian Church and Green Acres which will stall completion of your proposed complex for months if not years, and incur more costs to the taxpayers who have already been burdened with $42 million by this council, and;
Whereas, we believe the current municipal building could be gutted and expanded to accommodate the needs of the municipality in a style more in keeping with the architectural style of Caldwell, relocating the DPW if necessary, and;
Whereas, the construction of a nine story apartment building on Provost Sq. and Blfd Ave with an accompanying parking deck is totally out of character for our historic Caldwell and more in keeping with Montclair or Belleville and;
Whereas, the water study will not be completed for several months, we question whether any construction should be undertaken until it is determined whether the current underground culvert is adequate to handle severe future storms, and;
Whereas, the Caldwell Public Library is an historic building, a new effort to explore ways to save and expand it to meet todays needs be undertaken and;
Whereas, we oppose the Mayor and Council’s wish to reduce Bloomfield Ave travel lanes to one lane in each direction with a center turn lane, also reducing parking spaces and removing traffic lights at Forest Ave., and removing left hand turn lane at Westville Ave. and Roseland Ave., hampering access to Bloomfield Ave. and revising Hanford Pl and Brookside Ave from one way with parking to two ways with no parking;
Therefore, as Concerned Citizens For Caldwell, we hereby affix our signatures to this petition.
