This makes me very sad. I loved band and chorus and all of the other activities and friends it led me to. There has been a great deal of research showing that musicians are some of the few people who are efficient in auditory learning. They are also great at multitasking and critical thinking. I am grateful for the brain development that music has given me; without which I would not be a scientist or a nurse at Johns Hopkins hospital. If there is another mr batson out there in the world, any developing brain would be lucky to learn from him. Thanks for puttig this together William. The town of cambridge needs education more than anything else. It is a town where ignorance and small mindedness tends to thrive and without great education these things will not have the resources to move forward.

Great memories from band and chorus. So sad to hear that this is happening in our high school.

CSD Class of 1987! As many alumni can attest, Under the Direction of Mr. Robert Batson for the Band and Mrs. Cookie Brohawn for Chorus... we were taught discipline, teamwork, multitasking, memory building, RESPECT, as well as many other skills and we enjoyed our years in band and/or chorus. We were competitive and people enjoyed our performances. Our Band Director and Choral Director will forever be respected by the alumni for all they did for us as students and for CSD. It is very disheartening that the music program has dwindled to this low. The school board should be ashamed.

As a past band member and school teacher I fully support this petition and promise to get many many others to sign. Our county has a strong musical tradition across cultures. It has provided esteem and value to students who did not play sports. There is much evidence to prove the multiple physical and neurological benefits to young minds. I have watched the administration systematically destroy the music programs in our schools through scheduling and lack of appropriate funding. There are many other steps to take and this petition is just a first step. Lets do more! rally, write, demand. Just my feelings.
