Closing Bright Path Port Moody at Moody Elementary School is terrible. I appreciate that you've allowed the program to move to Moody Middle School for the summer but the middle schook is not equipped to support the outdoor play time that the children require. The daycare tells us they are looking at leasing another different space come September but that is not a guarantee and what they are looking at wI'll be chaotic for drop off and pick up as there is no parking. Do you realize how many families you are displacing by shutting Bright Path Port Moody out of Moody Elementary School? SD43 yout should be ashamed.

My grandchildren are affected. There is no extended family near them to help in this dire need. please help this excellent child care to continue.

Like most areas of the lower mainland daycare is a rising issue and has been for many years. I know personally finding a daycare that wouldn't discriminate against my daughter was very difficult and heart breaking (thank goodness we currently have child care that cares and supports her and I hope it can continue!). There is no repercussions against facilities that turn away children due to a disability and with a growing need for daycare it will make it less "desirable" for centres to support inclusion and take on all members of our community. This goes against all efforts our district has made to support inclusion and celebrate all aspects of our children. We as a community deserve to be included in these changes so we can continue to support all the children in our community during this time of transition. It is not an easy time but solutions can be found when we have the opportunity to work together to support all the families and children.

This sounds like a reasonable solution to me.

Our two kids attend the Mountain Meadows daycare, one in the preschool programs and my other child is in the after school program. We are on the families that may have to seek out alternative care with very little notice. We just want our children to be able to go to school and stay there in a safe "after-school care" environment until we are done work and are able to pick them up. The current afterschool program allows for that. Myself and upwards of 40 families ( not to mention anyone new coming into the school system this year), deserve a fair conclusion. Schools are about community, without the parents support to their school, there would be no community. Without the teachers support for our kids, there would be no education. We need the support of the principal and the school district to find a solution for the families of this community and others. Let us have the gym. With the population only getting bigger and a lot of our community have more than one child, the afterschool care is essential. We also have a child that attends our daycare that is special needs, what will happen to her? Didn't she deserve fair treatment of care? When I grew up our classrooms were upwards of 35 kids and we had portables galore. We had adequate afterschool care and the kids were safe until they needed to be picked up by their parents. Let's work together and find a solution that everyone agrees upon.

This is a great idea! We need to help one another and take care of our future (the children) by having a safe and affordable place that is not over crowded. Hopefully the schools, school district, daycares and parents can work together and make this happen.

This is a growing issue and is not going to go away and the school needs to work with the communities to find a reasonable solution. Telling families from 7 schools in the same community they have 2-3 months to find different child care facilities is unreasonable. I think the suggestion of utilizing the gym for before and after school care is a great short term solution. This shows the willingness for the school to think outside of the box. The use of the gym for before and after school care is not a new thing. We had this at our school over 25 years ago in my old city (Winnipeg). As some have mentioned below, we need a solution that works for both sides of the issue (SD and families), not just the SD making the decision.

Agree this is a good option for the time being, I hope the school district will work with the community to find better long term solutions as per suggested article from Tri-City with portables. SD43 needs classroom space for the new teachers because of the growing number of students well these students will need before and after school care, Can't find good solutions if only one side is making all the decisions. The community needs to be allowed to participate in the process given it affects our children and families.

Given the short timeline involved and the stress it has caused all of the families involved, I think this is a great short-term solution.

I think offering solutions instead of complaints is a positive first start. I agree the community needs to come together to help solve this problem. But negotiations also need to improve so that any cancelation or lack of renewals are advised of with at least 1 year notice for daycares.

We hope the school district is open to truly exploring all options and work to prevent all the damage that their decision will cause to families, staff and community. We deserve a chance to have our concerns heard in a town hall meeting and have them tell us face to face how they explore the options and come to their determinations.
