Introduce statutory, age-appropriate Sex and Relationship Education (SRE) in schools that is LGBTI inclusive

i had 1 session of SRE that touched on attitudes towards homosexuality. The teacher had good intentions but no knowledge and the session turned into the class giving her a barrage of abuse and going on a frightening witch hunt for who might be gay in class. That session made me deeply ashamed and very afraid about being gay. I never received any positive information, never received any information about trans, intersex or bi issues and never received any information regarding lgbti sexual health whatsoever. Information is power. All kids have the right to the knowledge that will help them make responsible decisions, not just straight ones. And all kids learning about LGBTI issues and sexual health would help dispel so many deeply harmful myths. When dealing with my sexuality at school I felt profoundly alone and scared, mostly through total ignorance.

This is such a basic and essential part of growing up and becoming a normal human being. It is as essential as the three R's.

Comprehesive sex education is cheaper than anitretroviral drugs and emergency birth control. Why does the governement not provide it?

School should be an entry to learning, not to the morgue

I was lucky enough to have parents who filled in the gaps in my SRE education, but most kids aren't. Making SRE inclusive of LGBTI people will make a huge difference to kids!

This is essential 'real world' education that children deserve to be taught for not just emotional factors but health and awareness. Why is such a common matter taboo?

given the child abuse scandals, the damage done by unintended teenage pregnancy, continuing concerns about HIV/AIDS and other antibiotic resistant strains of STDs, not to mention the respect education required to reduce violence against womenn and the need to promote healthy relationships I would say get on with it..and any further delay should be considered as institutional abdication of our responsibility towards our children

Denying access to health information is a form of oppression. Discrimination on the grounds of sexual orientation is illegal. Educate now.
