Started by Durham Complete Streets 10 years, 11 months ago

We call on the City Council, County Commissioners, and City/County staff to prioritize Complete Streets in Durham and ensure they will be implemented via necessary policies, plans, public processes, staff, and funding.

I love Durham. And I am incredibly frustrated by Durham as a pedestrian. So few sidewalks, major intersections with *no* crosswalk in some directions—it's impossible to take the most efficient route around town. I like to walk. I love that downtown Durham is quite walkable, distance-wise. I hate that I have to endanger myself *and* my children to take the most sensible routes.

N. Roxboro St. is much too wide in Old North Durham. Attempting to cross it is dangerous. That's a major concern in a neighborhood with increasing numbers of small children.

I hope that "Complete Streets" will extend to Old East Durham where many residents travel by foot or bike due to lack of resources and that this effort will extend to more than just Durham's privileged residents.

I would love to be able to cross Roxboro at Club Blvd. without feeling like I need to run for my life. Durham could be and needs to be much more walkable and bikeable.

As our city grows, we need to make streets that are safer for cyclists and pedestrians -- smart motorists will realize incentivizing alternative modes of transportation also reduces traffic congestion, so everyone wins!

No 'city' should have streets within a school walking zone, that have no sidewalks. Durham does. And I, along with many other families, have to negotiate this street every day/twice a day while taking our children to school. (Green between Gregson and Watts)
