Complaint to AQA - Unit 1 and 2 Sociology exam 11/05/2015 and 14/05/2015

A level terms were used that I was un aware off

I strongly believe that the sociology exams unit 1&2 was unfair and was very difficult.

What is marketisation of education and anomie??????

I think this is very unfair on children to sit an exam with no knologe of answering a question when never been taught on subject.. Children should be equally be given fair exam test of what they have leant and studied through the year of their progress of final year.. I disagree with extra questions thrown in to students as if they have not worked hard anof already :(

A GCSE exam should involve GCSE terms not a-level.

My sister sat her gcse for socialogy and had missed a huge number of marks because half the questions that were in the paper, she wasn't taught . This could affect her future as she may not be able to get into the college she wants.

I don't understand how i revised hardcore woke up at midnight everyday just to fulfil every hour of the day for revision so I could get an A only for the rug to be pulled out from under my feet. The exam was digusting that's honestly all i can say, i was disgusted. I don't think they understand that potentially that paper is my life, that could have been my future and you could have legit put sand in my eyes and ruined my dreams my life. Gcse are already alot of stress to put on a 16 year old who is already at a sensitive age who brain isn't developed completely and having them deal with the prospect that these exams dicate their life is already enough pressure for one to deal with, now imagine going into your exam and the first proper question that you see (that actually involves some sociology and isnt just a comprehensive question) being a subject you were never taught. Come on mate. Lets be serious. You are already bricking it when the lady says 'you have 1 hour and 30 mins you test has begun' arghhh im annoyed. Also i personally think the time you are givien in sociology is completely unrealistic i dont understand how you have paper one in which you have two 12 mark questions and you have paper 2 where you have 3 12 mark questions and in both exams you are given the same time... Where do you think im going to get the time to even answer the last 12 marker fully. Time waits for no man. Lets be serious lower the grade bounder the AQA exam paper is already hard enough as (in my opinion) you're given the inadequate amount of time now we have students including myself wasting time on the very first proper question trying to rack their brain to find the definition of this word and then when they realise they are completely blank having to make up for those minutes in all the other questions meaning they are halve assed and could have been alot better... To be honest it was just a. Shambles.

Yeah, definitely needs to be lowered. Our teacher did teach us both anomie and content analysis, because she is a great teacher. Yet, I didn't put anomie, b/c I forgot! Hopefully will be lowered!

gcse exams are meant to be able to be accessed by students who have a range of abilities for the notional 15/16 yr old. Many of the 1 mark questions needed inference which a notional child with a reading age of 10 / 11 yrs would not have been able to access ie the g grade. I understand that marks are adjusted, so overall if students struggled with questions that will be taken in to account. However it must be noted that when a student is unable to answer a question then this can have a knock on effect. It was clear as any sociologist can tell you that this paper needed students to have cultural capital in order to access the questions let alone the answers. As we know this disadvantages those who do grow up in that privileged setting. Therefore it is ironic that a subject that analyses inequality is the exam which is now going to reinforce all the injustices that are experienced by the working class, and or other social groups. I wonder what this gcse tries to actually test as the content covered is extremely interesting and thought provoking. My students say they would like an extra 30 mins so they have thinking time. My students are not adults and thus there should be an acknowledgement of this, hence the anomie question was unacceptable. I did teach the term, however it's a term only accessible to the few. I encouraged my bright young things to use this terminology but to expect a lower ability 15/16 yr old to be able to clearly define it is unacceptable. So Aqa what are you actually testing? Moats adults don' t know this term. I don't think there are many subjects where an educated adult ( degree level) would struggle to also be able to define a key term on a gcse paper. !! I asked well educated people,if they could define this term. Couldn't find anyone! ( am fully aware that my sample may not be that representative of the pop) surely if we have to test then there needs to be parity between subjects. This is clearly not the case. This is highly unfair and I hope for the best interests of the stufnets who were highly disrepected through this exam, as I know many that revised well for the exam
