Dr. Kim is a cancer to the mechanical engineering department. He has absolutely no concern for his students' well being and is one of the poorest professors on campus. He rushes through the lecture material, scoffs at students who ask legitimate questions, and can't even be bothered to stay in class for the allotted time period. He completely ruined my passion for becoming a design engineer.

I took Kim and he did not give out clear instruction. Also, his number and safety factor were very unreasonable. As much as I agree on the monopoly argument, I disagree with the regrading part of this petition. It was very whiny. I believe this petition does not truly address the root of the problem. Instead of complaining about Kim's teaching method, you should start a petition to hire a professor with "proven machine design industry experience" for ME 325. Kim came straight from academia and his design approach is not practical in the outside world. Also, he does not give much freedom in the design process which requires creativity and common sense. Currently, Stover was the only person in the College of Engineering with such experience. If you can, you should ask Shih if he can teach ME 325.

This one professor monopoly has to stop.

I had Kim for ME 319 and he simply does not grade fairly. Everyone I knew in the class received a 15/100 on the final or lower. He is simply the worst professor at Cal Poly.

If I fail a course, I am more than willing to admit when I've messed up. And if a teacher is challenging, that's fine too. I just work harder. But this teacher is completely unfair. He clearly does not like or care for his job. And he clearly does not care for his students, not from an academic standpoint or personal (which is fine). To call him a teacher is a joke in itself considering all he does is post slides on the projector (slides that he did not create by the way) and skips through them quickly. He is beyond lazy. And clearly has some agenda. As for midterms. He does not pass back midterms (how are we suppose to learn from our mistakes??), and when I went into his office hours to ask to see a midterm he gave me a drastically lower grade than the total grade I added up. What... he couldn't do the math for 20+20+20+20=80 ?? And he calls himself an engineer?? How do we know he isn't messing up with other ppls midterm grades? I constantly throughout the quarter felt discriminated by him (since the very beginning). He would take points off from me that he wouldn't take off from other students who made the EXACT same mistake. All in all, most arrogant man I've ever met. The only reason he sticks with this job is because it feeds his ego. If only he knew the truth of everything everyone says about him.

This petition is a great idea, but he sure it is professionally laid out and follow up by contact Angela Shih, the ME department chair, to meet in person to discuss this matter. This petition will be useless if we don't get approval from the people in charge.

1- We the Cal Poly Pomona Students demand to Stop the monopoly of Dr Kim teaching this course alone by having the Mechanical Engineering Department offer different professors to teach it as well. Students should have options to choose from not just one professor. 2- We the Cal Poly Pomona Students demand to Consider the project to count as 40% of the full class grade as it took more effort and time than the remaining parts of the course. 3- We the Cal Poly Pomona Students demand that the midterm and final exams be regraded by a different professor. 4- We the Cal Poly Pomona Students demand that students who receive 50% overall grade to pass as promised by Dr Kim after the regrading and restructuring of the course points.

Long comment incoming. I'm a very hard working student and I can provide academic, professional, and personal references to back that up. This professor was the worst I've ever taken. I actually took this professor for Statics and will make some very similar comments. He spent several classes insulting us on our prior education, stating California education sucks and that's why we have are falling short and "failing as budding engineers". I went to his office hours with the request to see an exam to look at what I did wrong and he rudely yelled at me and asked me to leave, refusing to allow me to see the exam (I have the right to see my own exam...). This decision was overruled by the department head, who retrieved the exam for me and instructed me to deal with her from that point forward instead of him. This professor has no interest in helping his students learn or be better engineers; he has instead makes every to berate his students every chance he gets. I have heard his use of attitude with numerous other students in his office hours as I've waited outside. Furthermore, I've noticed his attitude is very much more pungent with individuals of certain ethnic backgrounds... he's given quiz credit to one ethnic group while denying the same credit to another ethnic group when the "incorrect" parts on the quiz were the same on both quizzes. His grading is essentially 100 or 0, and you'll get a 0 if you make even a simple typo mistake in the problem regardless if you got the right answer. I actually received a 0 on a quiz because I chose a coordinate system with more favorable positive / negative axes, and yes I got the right answer. Furthermore, he refused to discuss my total grade / likelihood of passing, which caused me to miss my enrollment opportunity to enroll in Statics again when I found out I failed over 2 weeks after finals. This professor single handedly added a year onto my time at CPP, and made no effort to assist me in extracting any benefit fr

Professor Kim has displayed unprofessional methods of teaching. Consistently shows favoritism to students who do well and who have a background in the material. But then there are the other students who are there to learn, and still professor Kim shows no effort in engaging in a conversation to help them better understand. He leaves everything for the students to "figure out" and some how was expects the students to manifest the ability to solve problems to his level of expertise.

There has to be a better option. The students are here to learn and represent california state polytechnic university pomona when they make it to industry. However, killing a students gpa and putting them through hell isn't the best approach of learning.

The final was unbelievably hard. His program was flawed and caused endless hours of redoing work based on wrong values given by the program MDT4

We're are human beings and he doesn't treat us like ones. When we ask for help he doesn't help! Is he paid to be arrogant and not help us????
