UCSB Adventure Programs trips foster a sense of community and connection with nature serving as an invaluable experience for participants. However as an Adventure Programs trip leader, I believe the current lack of compensation for dedicated leaders who devote significant time, effort, and expertise to ensure the success of these trips needs to be changed.

Allow me to provide insight into the extensive time and dedication required for these trips. Leaders engage in meticulous planning sessions, organize logistics, gather supplies, conduct pre-trip orientations, facilitate the entire trip, and handle post-trip responsibilities. The wholehearted commitment exhibited throughout this process is nothing short of exemplary.

Consequently, I firmly believe Adventure Programs trip leaders deserve fair compensation for the time, dedication, knowledge, and hard work involved in leading these trips. This compensation should include a typical wage for pre-trip and post-trip meetings, along with a stipend for each day of the trip. Not only will this acknowledge and appreciate the contributions these individuals make but it will also ensure the longevity and long-term success of Adventure Programs by providing adequate support to leaders.

We urge Stephen Byrd and the UCSB Recreation Administration to take action in addressing this issue and implementing a fair compensation system for Adventure Programs Trip Leaders. Your support in recognizing the importance of compensating these leaders will contribute to the overall success and enrichment of outdoor education opportunities for all UCSB students.

Thank you for your attention to this matter. Together, let us ensure equity and fairness for all Adventure Program leaders.

Warm Regards,

Kennedy Prutow
