Kenny MacAskill, Justice Minister for Scotland has released the man convicted of the Lockerbie bombing on compassionate grounds. Al Megrahi has prostate cancer and has a limited life expectancy. Opinion is divided and, there now being an online petition where opposition to the decision can be expressed, this petition hopes to provide the balance. Those of us who believe that mercy is an instrinsic part of justice can sign here.

I am an individual who feels strongly that this issue should not be hi-jacked by those crying for vengeance whilst those who believe in mercy and compassion remain silent. This is a matter where Scots law, with all its capacity for mercy, should transcend politics.
