Mr.Clifton was a well respected, community leader who owned a grocery store in Mound Bayou, Mississippi. He has spent 19 years and 10 months in the federal prison of a 33 years sentence for a first time drug conviction. He is the proud father of 8 boys, and a loving grandfather and sibling. During his incarceration he has taken numerous classes and apprenticeship, to ensure that he can become gainfully employed upon his release. If the current guidelines that are in effect today were in place when Mr. Clifton was sentenced, he could only receive a maximum of 20 years for the charges he is currently serving. These are based on new guidelines set forth in Appendi and Booker.
Everybody deserves a second chance and an opportunity to become a productive citizen. Mr. Clifton is seeking clemency based on society's change in its view, and he has been fully rehabilitated and wants a second chance to become a productive citizen.
