If you have a permit...it is deeded to the home, not the person. The cost of homes is going up and up and up and up. A permit is valuable for resale and give the new buyer the ability to subsidize his income to pay for it.

Yes, we should start a "retraining" camp where any person who comes to the islands and cant prove he is not inborn will have to attend a weeks training of how to not buy things wrapped in plastic at Kings and tip toe all around the rock beaches as to not move a stone...Mob mentality.

So it is about Tourism is it not? Too many people? Darn Constitution we need to do away with it. By God, we are here and we don't want or need any other people. Lets succeed from the Union.

Let's freeze the VR permits. I'm in favor of keeping them for local residents and not for absentee owners looking to make some extra bucks.

Its very tiring to keep reading the same over and over "EMOTIONS" with no facts or substance. I feel like I am trying to defend the first Latino that moved into our neighborhood. My God....short-term rental housing has ruined neighborhoods and destroyed communities? I am beginning to believe that the organization who established this petition are writing these comments. Same Mob Mentality

Falicy....Doing away with VRBO's will not lower rents to school teachers or any other person. They will not rent for less than market value and maybe you should know what the average rent for a one bedroom home (if they exist) actually is. VRBO's are owned by your fellow islanders. It is a cottage business run by ma and pa...Not the Fairmont hotel chain.

How do you think the island gets "its own people" You think they are born here and populate and thats it? You have to be able to afford to come here, and make a living to stay here. Most VRBO's were started by your fellow "Own People" who are now your neighbors, and would not have been able to get here, nor stay here without the income from a VrBO. You have no idea how hard it is and how much it costs to run a successful VRBO, nor do you care. You just want to sling Mob Mentality

Who do you think pays these "workforce" on the islands? Do they print thier own money? You can't stop people from coming here unless of course you change the constitution. Or you can just put up a "hate" sign. Which turns more people in other words which are longer stays....Hotels, bed and breakfact, or VRBOs? Get facts not Mob Mentality

Contribute to the Community? Like in the arts, music, or the thousands of tax dollars being brought here to feed your infrastructure? Which resources have been stretched to the limit (mob mentality statement). Which ones exactly? Plastic Bags at the market? So mobby...No facts just feelings...you can't make laws based on feelings.

Define "affordable". The min rent is 3,000 a month. If a vrbo cannot vrbo, it will not accept 10 people living there to be able to afford the rent. Would you? If VRBO's are taken out of practice, which by the way is illegal and subject to class action lawsuits, they will not lower thier rent to a level that a $600,000 plus home would go for to a service worker. That is a fallacy when your mob says that vrbos are taking away low income housing. Build low income housing. Change Zoning allow smaller foot prints.

So you want to cut out hundreds of thousands of dollars in revenue to not only the County, but to all the local business? None of you can come up with any specific problem...only "feelings" unfounded feelings. Much like the movies when the "Martians" land and every one is so scared....they hate them but they don't know why and someone runs around town with a torch in thier hand yelling "The Martians are coming stop them"

Where do you get your erroneous information? Face Book? Corporations own the majority of Apt rentals in this Town. Show me one Corporation of more than one stockholder that owns vacation rentals. You are calling hundreds of hard working fellow Islander's "Predatory Landlords" You might want to look up the legal description as you are way off and just plain hateful with nothing but Mob Mentality.

Is it now a sin to "make money". Why do you think hard working seniors own these vacation rentals. You think they were just given to them? Are people that run a cottage business bad people? Then shut down all the ma and pa stores downtown....They are just simply bad people to want to earn money....Have you any idea or have ever taken the time to see just who owns Vacation REntals? No of course not....Mob Mentality

And you suppose to turn your eye to the $200,000 penalty box dollars that they have collected just last year? Do you think that the two enforcement officers are not on top of these things. Did you even know that the County surfs the VRBO adds and make sure that they have posted thier license permit number on the first page of the ad? If not...CaaaaaaChing....mob mentality, non truths. What will limit people coming here is the nasty attitude of "I'm here, I have a pension, I don't need anyone else to get in my way at the checkout counter at Kings....Mob Mob Mob.

What do you mean by "NO requirement for owners of the rentals to provide for all this visitors in their temporary quarters to weather a sustained emergency." So that should just apply to vacation rentals? How many persons on this island have even 3 days worth of emergency rations? Really poor example to try and put fellow islanders out of their constitutional right to own and manage a business to established County Codes.. Nutz..
You have been given the phone number of the person who is responsible to make sure they follow the mandated rules by the county. Why aren't you calling them instead of making up these ridiculous Mob mentality claims? Again, no one
