I think the VR cap should be based on Active and Compliant vacation rental permits not just compliant. We already have enough active permits!

An adage I have heard often is that people are drawn to the San Juans for their natural beauty, and they decided to stay because of the community. An important part of that community for many of us is neighborhood life. The sharing and caring that goes on when we know people who live next door. Please stand up for community by voting for a cap of 413 vacation rentals. Thank you.

Your unanimous decision in August was the right one.
It respected the ample feedback of residents and small businesses that our communities are maxed out at current visitor levels, while honoring the rights of existing compliant VR permit holders.
Stand with those speaking on behalf of our community and environmental well-being.

In previous Council hearings on VRs, Jamie Stephens admitted that Eastsound UGA is "bleeding vacation rentals." So why, and HOW, did you decide to recommend that we still should have SO MANY MORE than Friday Harbor UGA on a land mass full of critical areas? Please explain yourselves! (and thank you to those Planning Commissioners who voted against raising the cap!)

Regardless of whether you're a tourist, resident, or a business owner, over-tourism is not in anybody's best long-term interests. Short-term vacation rentals represent the tipping point of over-tourism in the San Juans, and like all land-uses should be highly regulated, and have limits.
