The future of the San Juans is dire. There is already not enough housing thanks to the insane number of vacation rentals. Stores and restaurants ARE ALREADY CLOSING BECAUSE THERE IS NO HOUSING FOR STAFF. Please. The cap limit SHOULD be a fraction of what it is. Please stick with the lower number. The rich people will still be rich if they rent to people who actually live and work here, rather than just party here.
Please. Make 413 the county cap.

Why allow “inactive” permit holders to be added to the permanent cap limit? They have chosen by not being “active and compliant” to remove themselves from the current VR business.
The proliferation of short term rentals is the slippery slope to over-tourism which will destroy the environment and character of these islands. The supporting infrastructure and limited resources, including transportation and potable water, is already burdened. Your previous decision was correct. Please respect and reflect the wishes of the many long term residents from all islands. They are the witnesses to the impact, believe them. Cap the short term rentals at 413.
Rentals where the owner resides on the property or rents space within their home should be a separate category and not counted within the cap.

The VR cap is a measurable, quantifiable was to accurately assess the impact of VR on the cost of housing and this costs effect on maintaining a stable, sustainable workforce in SJC. Do the right thing. Honor the lives of the people you were elected to serve by honoring the 413 cap.
