Community Living Call to Action
I BELIEVE THAT COMMUNITY LIVING BC (CLBC) SHOULD PROVIDE A LIFELONG, SEAMLESS SYSTEM OF SUPPORT FOR CHILDREN AND YOUTH WITH SPECIAL NEEDS WHO HAVE A DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITY, ADULTS WITH A DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITY, AND THEIR FAMILIES. Background: Premier Gordon Campbell announced changes in the provincial cabinet on Monday, June 23, 2008. The provincial government has turned its back on its longstanding commitment to implement community\'s vision of having a seamless lifelong system of support for children and youth with special needs who have a developmental disability, adults with a developmental disability, and their families. The Premier\'s decision completely separates government responsibilities for children and youth with special needs who have a developmental disability from adult community living services by splitting the system into two Ministries: * Adult Community Living Services (and responsibility for CLBC) have been moved to the newly created Ministry of Housing and Social Development. * Responsibility for children and youth with special needs who have a developmental disability, including the programs for children with special needs currently at CLBC, have been moved back to the Ministry of Children and Family Development (MCFD). In a recent BC Association for Community Living (BCACL) survey, 92.9% of people who responded from across the province said that they believe CLBC should provide one seamless system of support for children and youth with special needs, adults with a developmental disability, and their families, across their lifespan. Your voice counts! We must tell the Premier that CLBC should provide a seamless system of support for children and youth with special needs, adults with developmental disabilities, and their families. The Premier needs to hear the voices of self advocates, families and community partners who will be impacted by this decision. *If you would like a paper copy of this petition to distribute, please click on this link: http://www.bcacl.org/documents/pdfCOMMUNITYLIVINGCALLTOACTION.pdf *Note: After you sign the petition, there will be a prompt for a donation.
