COMMUNITY SUPPORT FOR SUKHMANJIT SINGH

We, the undersigned members of the community, are writing this petition in unwavering support of Sukhmanjit Singh’s application for permanent residency in Canada under humanitarian and compassionate considerations. Sukhmanjit has been an integral and invaluable member of our community since his arrival in Canada on December 26, 2017. Throughout his time here, he has exemplified remarkable character, resilience, and a steadfast commitment to positively contributing to Canadian society. His story reflects the values of determination, community integration, and family support that resonate deeply with us all.
A Resilient Member of the Community
Sukhmanjit’s journey in Canada has been a testament to his perseverance and strength. Navigating life in a new country is never easy, and his challenges were compounded by the global COVID-19 pandemic, which disrupted every facet of daily life. Despite the emotional and mental toll of isolation and uncertainty, he completed his studies at Coquitlam College, earning an Associate of Arts degree. This accomplishment highlights his dedication to personal growth and academic achievement, even in the face of adversity. Sukhmanjit’s resilience is further demonstrated by his ability to adapt to unfamiliar circumstances while maintaining a positive and hopeful outlook.
A Strong Advocate for Family and Community Values
Family is central to Sukhmanjit’s life, and his actions reflect the deep-rooted cultural emphasis on kinship and mutual support. Since his arrival, he has been residing with his sister, Gurmanjit, a permanent resident of Canada. Their bond is a cornerstone of his life, and he has provided her with unwavering emotional and moral support. Recently, Gurmanjit purchased a home with her fiancé, and Sukhmanjit has played a crucial role in helping maintain this household, further solidifying his integral role in their family unit.
Beyond his immediate family, Sukhmanjit has cultivated meaningful relationships with his extended family in Canada. He is affectionately referred to as “Mama” by his cousins’ children, a term that signifies more than a familial connection in our culture. It represents a role of mentorship, guidance, and unwavering support—a bond that is deeply cherished and reflects his nurturing and dependable nature. His close ties with these children demonstrate his significant role as a figure of stability and care, not only within his family but also in the broader community.
Contributions to the Community
Sukhmanjit’s impact extends far beyond his family. He has consistently demonstrated a willingness to contribute to his community, whether by participating in cultural events, assisting neighbors in need, or offering his time to support friends. His actions have fostered a sense of belonging and mutual respect that is foundational to our community’s strength. In the workplace, he has excelled, earning recognition as “Employee of the Month” multiple times during his tenure at Best Buy and Starbucks. These accolades reflect his strong work ethic, positive attitude, and ability to inspire those around him.
His community engagement is not limited to formal activities. Sukhmanjit’s presence brings people together, creating an environment of inclusivity and warmth. He has become a role model for younger members of our community, demonstrating the values of hard work, resilience, and kindness. His contributions are deeply appreciated and underscore the significant positive impact he has had on those around him.
Challenges and the Need for Compassion
Despite his many achievements, Sukhmanjit has faced significant challenges that have shaped his current situation. His initial application for a Post-Graduate Work Permit was refused due to part-time enrollment during one semester, which was necessitated by the mental health struggles brought on by the pandemic. This decision has limited his pathways for remaining in Canada, despite his continued efforts to comply with immigration requirements and his strong desire to contribute to Canadian society.
Returning to India would impose insurmountable difficulties on Sukhmanjit. Having spent the majority of his young adulthood in Canada, he has no professional ties, limited social connections, and no knowledge of his family’s farming livelihood. The prospect of starting anew in an unfamiliar environment, devoid of the stability and community he has built here, would have severe repercussions on his mental and emotional well-being. His role as a caregiver, mentor, and community member would be irreparably disrupted, leaving a void that would impact not only him but also those who rely on his presence.
A Plea for Permanent Residency
We, as a community, firmly believe that Sukhmanjit’s continued presence in Canada is not only beneficial to him but also to the community at large. His unwavering moral character, dedication to family and community, and resilience in the face of adversity make him an ideal candidate for permanent residency. By granting him this opportunity, Canada would gain a devoted and hardworking individual who is eager to contribute positively to the country’s social and cultural fabric.
Sukhmanjit’s story is one of perseverance, contribution, and integration—qualities that align with the values Canada upholds. His ties to this community, his family, and his achievements demonstrate his readiness to thrive as a permanent resident. The undersigned members of the community stand united in support of Sukhmanjit’s application and respectfully urge the authorities to grant him the opportunity to continue building his life in Canada.
Thank you for taking the time to consider this petition. Yourunderstanding and compassion in reviewing Sukhmanjit Singh’s case are greatly appreciated.
