As a Berkeley High alum I am deeply disturbed that kids are not safe at school. I am also even more disturbed by the suggested sources for "education". Berkeley High needs to step up its teaching of history. It was lagging in my time and still biased. Just the fact please.

Are we living in Nazi Germany 1938 or America 2023. The vitriol and hatred towards Jewish students is unbelievable and is fueled by our society, home and worst of all in our school like BUSD. Use education to teach history so that it will not be repeated. Education not indoctrination. Use education inform but teach and practice acceptance, tolerance ,understanding and respect.

So much for Berkeley’s so called multicultural tolerance. Where are the grown ups in the room calling out genocidal violence and standing up for and protecting any students feeling unsafe and threatened.

This is actually really simple. You all should be ashamed of yourselves for promoting antisemitism to students funded by taxpayer dollars. Hamas is a terrorist organization. They rape women and behead babies. This isn't hard. The best way to keep kids safe is to teach them right from wrong. You're failing so badly it would be laughable if it weren't so horribly tragic. Educators are responsible for the future failings of our country.

This is not about taking sides in the horrors that continue in Israel/Palestine. This is about practicing the values BUSD espouses. “We treat each other with respect and act with integrity.”
Please respect the requests in this letter and implement them as soon as possible.

The former assistant superintendent of Berkeley Unified sent a message to his new district stating that our job is not to get involved in a global conflict, but to provide education and a safe space for students to come and learn.

The board's primary concern and task must be keeping all students and staff safe and feeling safe to provide a healthy learning environment. Uphold public school's sacred duty to build an American community of tolerance, respect, and caring.

I feel ashamed to live in a community where a petition is needed to get educators to act like educators, people who are dedicated to the well being of all students. Shame on you BUSD for allowing this heightened level of antisemitism to happen on your watch. I hope you will rise to this occasion and provide the courage and leadership to navigate our community through this very painful and difficult time.

Keep politics out of the schools and create a safe community for all! Step up efforts to seek out antisemitism and all types of intolerance and assualts on safety. Do your part and show students they can stand up to peace against hatred.
