I'm a resident of Nauck. I haven't come to a position on this matter yet, but I visited the site in question this evening. It is one block away from Drew Elementary School and the adjacent county sprayground/playground. I plan to contact county officials to ask about what zoning laws, if any, apply in situations like these. At first blush, it seems like a poor choice of location, to me.

I do not agree with having a gun store in Shirlington. While I believe the community should have a say in whether or not one is allowed, it might be better served to work out some kind of legislation preventing such stores from existing within certain bounds (like 2 miles from a school, etc.). That being said, I would be in favor of a gun store being somewhere else, and shutting down gun shows, where a person can get a gun and not necessarily have it registered.
We have enought to weary about with the DRUGS, now GUNS for real.

What is Mr. Steele saying? Is that he is the only one who has a positive outlook for a gun store? Maybe he is not one of his referred too, intelligent South Arlingtonians. The residents are intelligent enough to know that guns are lega in Arlington, they are expressing their God given right to voice their opinion, the same as you. You have done it and it is accepted.

As a long-time resident of South Arlington, I agree that we do not need a gun shop. While I respect the rights of gun owners, I do not want to see this business in my neighborhood - it will not contribute in a productive way to the opportunities here, nor to the atmosphere. Prospective gun owners have many other venues in which to pursue their legal rights; let's instead welcome a business that will benefit the entire community, not a very small minority of clients.

How sad that my comment was deleted -- ostensibly by the petition creator(s). It seems they're not ready, able, or willing to discuss this topic. I suppose if I had posted a simple reactive "No to gun shop!" comment, it would have been retained.

I especially dislike the part in your comment where you say you are a hunter and seem to think that killing defenseless animals is a good thing. There is nothing sporting or nobel about killing animals for pleasure.
