One of the major reasons we chose WCA was a different math curriculum. From an academic standpoint, what sets WCA apart from other schools now? If I wanted common core, they could just go to the elementary/middle/high schools in town. It's very disappointing that such a major shift occurred with little to no communication. I have students that are good at math and some that were not. My good students are struggling this year, for the first time in their lives. Gee, I wonder if there's a correlation? And I can't even help them because the core points of CC are counterintuitive to Singapore math, and any math I've ever known in my life. I'm concerned and wondering what WCA's goal really is.

I will encourage my sister to pull my nieces out of the school. CC Math is a gimmicky disaster that takes the love of math kids have and squashes it like a cockroach.

The lack of Common Core math is one of the reasons we decided on this school 9 years ago. We strongly disagree with the adoption of this curriculum and teaching to the test instead of curriculum that is most beneficial to the students.

I find that many decisions are made at this school that are in the best interest of the school and not the children. Always has been about the test scores. Our kids spend an exorbitant amount of time preparing for these tests and taking these tests when they could be just learning. Why dont we go elsewhere then? Frankly because we school of choice in and we cant get in to another school. Additionally, the kids have great friends.

One of the main selling points about WCA is that it was Core Knowledge & NOT Common Core. Now all of a sudden we’ve switched to using CC & it’s terrible! Math homework for a 5th grader shouldn’t be a struggle for parents to help explain, and it shouldn’t take the students an hour or more to answer 15-20 questions. Supposedly this was done because it’s what’a on the state tests. I didn’t send my child to WCA to do good on the state test. Also, if state test scores were dropping then maybe we needed to take a look at how things were being taught, not switching to teach for the test. I can say personally my son is struggling. His homework ends up being a great score because he has time to do it & work at it until it’s right, but he bombed the first test & now has an awful math grade. Which doesn’t help him, or the overall math scores that seem to be the issue here. There has to be a better answer than Common Core. The state test scores won’t go up if the kids don’t understand what the heck they’re supposed to be doing.

My oldest used common core math and his previous school and it was horrible. We were so happy to come to WCA get away from it. I was so disappointed to see the switch this year. I really feel that utilizing this will be detrimental to our children’s skills. Please get rid of it!

I was not happy to hear out elementary school is using Invision math. Common core is not a conducive way to learn!!

I have experience common core at our previous schools and it has been the worst type of curriculums that we have ever come across and to know that WCA supports this is a disappointment on the reasoning on why we switched. It lacks real problem-solving at lacks reasoning and understanding and has been the downfall of I feel our children on learning. It was a huge reason on why we as a family left the other school that my kids attended their whole life. This kind of curriculums is going to be the downfall of the generations learning this type of math. It holds no reliable true source on problem-solving. It’s confusing, it’s distracting, and the lengths that it goes to on how to teach kids math takes away the simplicity of what it is really about and the joy. I strongly will petition against this and know that if Windsor Charter decides to keep common core at this school it will be the reason of what sets this school apart from all the rest and will put my family in a place to decide to switch once again.
