Since July 1, 2010, individuals with long term needs related to their brain injury have been denied access to services because Pennsylvania's brain injury waiver has been suspended indefinitely. If a member of your family sustained a brain injury you would want them to have every opportunity for recovery. The system developed to support these individuals is being systematically dismantled.
- When public dollars are cut the system falls apart and severely impaired individuals have nowhere to receive care. When appropriate serviced are not available, individuals wind up in other inappropriate systems receiving incorrect care or no care. This frequently leads to more medical and behavioral needs often at higher costs, i.e. hospitals, prisons, emergency rooms, and nursing homes.
- The Office of Long Term Living has recently announced a change in rates for Waiver service providers. Providers cannot render services within the constraints of his rate structure. This means that individuals currently served in the COMMCARE Waiver are at great risk of losing their services and support.
The rate for community re-integration:
DECREASING by 42-50%
The rate for cognitive rehabilitation:
DECREASING by 33-60%
The rate for counseling:
DECREASING by 29-33%
The rate for all therapies:
DECREASING by 17-22%
DECREASING by 17-22%
The rate for pre-vocational services:
DECREASING by 39-44%
The rate for behavior therapy:
DECREASING by 31-44%
The rate for supported employment:
DECREASING by 20%
