Petition for: District 1 School Board member and Superintendent Hite

We, the undersigned show our support for High Point High School’s graduation to be kept at the Comcast Center at the University of Maryland.

It has recently come to our attention that the graduation location for the 2012 class at High Point High School has been moved from the Comcast Center to the Showplace Arena. We strongly urge you to intervene on behalf of the High Point Community. The Comcast Center is significantly closer to our school than the Showplace Arena.

We need the board of education to stand up for High Point. While we understand financial reasons, there are other concerns that need to be considered. It is unreasonable to ask parents and loved ones to travel to Upper Marlboro to see their students graduate. The school board and superintendent have been reluctant to listen to the concerns of this community. We are voicing our opinions through this petition, in order to get your attention. As stakeholders in this school system, we ask for you to act upon our concerns.

This administration cannot keep handing down decisions without community input. We were never advised that this option was ever being considered. Parents deserve more from this school system. The school board and superintendent cannot keep making isolated decisions without consulting those who it will negatively affect.

Please do what is right for High Point High School, and consider the people adversely affected by this decision. High Point continues to be overlooked by the school system and it is entirely undeserved. When will the school system acknowledge the opinions and feelings of High Point parents and students? This community deserves much better and we are willing to speak up to ensure fair treatment.

                                                                   Sincerely,                                                                                      David Murray
