Youth alcoholism is a prominent health issue in NZ’s society, having numerous consequences on both the brain development of adolescents and the wider community. In New Zealand, the average age for an individual to begin drinking is 13.6 years old; this is far too young! By increasing the purchasing age of alcohol from 18 to 21, teenagers are less likely to have access to this widespread drug. Individuals aged 18 may still attend school and associate with younger peers; raising the purchasing age decreases the likelihood of alcohol being distributed to youth. By signing this petition, you are contributing to a safer and healthier future for our youth!
