Marijuana, while it can become mentally addictive, is not physically addictive. And addictive substances create a captive consumer audience, much more than non-addictive products. It's not hard to foresee a future where nicotine would be added to marijuana cigarettes. Our proposal is for the State of Colorado to pass a "Marijuana Purity Law" (MPL), after the Reinheitsgebot. It has three main regulatory statutes:
1. The MPL forbids any addictive chemical being added to all commercially-sold marijuana or marijuana-infused products, such as cigarettes, oils, hash, edibles, drinks, or any other such product.
2. The MPL requires standardized labeling practices that clearly indicate potency of the product so labeled.
3. The MPL requires organic farming practices for the raising of marijuana used in all marijuana products sold within the state of Colorado, whether produced in this state or not. This would be in line with standard organic designation requirements, specifically prohibiting the use of chemical fertilizers, pesticides and herbicides on crops.
If you agree with us, please sign thispetition that will be sent to the Colorado State Legislature when it has reached 2,000 signatures. Colorado residents are particularly encouraged to apply, as your opinion will have more weight with the lawmakers in Denver. Thank you!
