Libraries enrich lives.

School libraries are an integral part of our childrens’ education. They offer every child, regardless of home circumstances, the opportunity to open their minds to the possible. Without the resources and encouragement of the school library and librarians, we deny them the chance to grow and bloom.

As a teacher, I feel libraries are essential in schools. Children are reading less and need library services and guidance.

My son goes to Sharp and LOVES library day. Loves being able to borrow books and read them to me and his little brother.

Please keep libraries!

Shocked that Collingswood does not have a better library system

Now more than ever, school librarians are vital to student achievement and to their success in college and career.

Keep the library!!

School librarians have knowledge of books, both fiction and non-fiction, classic and current that support classroom teachers and students. School librarians librarian help students connect to reading and digital literacies in a variety of ways. When school librarians are cut and schools rely solely on teachers to curate classroom collections we open the door to several problems: manageability, currency, selection, equity, varying levels of interests and abilities. My 3rd grader already struggles with reading comprehension. Library day gives him the chance to be with his classmates and look at different books while choosing a subject that interests him. We make a point to read that book over and over until he needs to return it. Already so much of our children's day is spent on electronic devices at school. Why would we take away such an essential part of their educational growth?

Children should experience the wonders of books.

I am an elementary school teacher and parent of two children enrolled at Tatem. The joy that librarians bring to children and their reading isn't matched by classroom teachers. I have witnessed librarians at work find perfect books for students and ignite a passion for reading. I have seen school librarians connect with struggling readers and inspire joy. In older elementary grades, librarians teach students how to conduct research. It is disappointing that my children do not have access to a librarian at school.

Libraries are such a special place for children, in an era of so much technology it’s our duty to make sure kids grow up loving BOOKS.

Libraries staffed with certified librarians are linked to higher test scores and literacy rates in schools. Libraries are much more than just books on a shelf! Libraries are places for exploration, socialization, experimentation and imagination!
