The proposed 6% tuition increase (P70/unit) is still in the offing, as well as increases for other fees. More private universities are set to increase their fees which will further commercialize the tertiary education system. For this, an even wider unity of students must be formed. Let our position resound with clarity. Current situations warrant a reversal of the commercialization of education. For an entire decade, Yet, minimum wages of families increased only by 60% in the same timeframe! Where then will families get the additional money to cope with increased cost of sending their children? The problem is the same should they decide to enroll in other universities, as 88% of colleges are privately owned. Unjust miscellaneous fees abound due to the unregulated environment in tertiary education. Energy Fee, Installment Fee, Physical Infrastructure Fee, Information and Development Fee are some of the striking examples. These fees remain questionable for their high rates. Students have no knowledge where these fees go, except perhaps to the direct profit of schools. In comparison, the entire amount collected from these unjust fees alone is enough to cover 5 semesters worth of income expected from the proposed 6% tuition increase. There are many more fees that can be used to cover any tuition increase for the next years. STOP INCREASING OUR TUITION AND DECREASING OUR FUTURE CAREERS.
