The College needs to governed by the same democratic principles we all live in as a society. The disconnect with the College leadership and us members has really become unacceptable.

This proposed action is unjust.

The college has gone too far and is completely out of touch with reality.

I have already responded to the email sent out about these proposed changes and agree with the BCDAs recommendations.

A sense of Deja's vu once again! Lately there seems to be an absurd pattern of thinking at our College, wonder if there are any independent thinkers left on our College Executive and Board? Or are they too scared to break up the "old boys" club that is entrenched already? The last petition on Boundaries, then the law suit that cost our Membership a small fortune and now the proposed succession model! Had been a proud member thus far, however lately I am questioning the objectivity/ability of our College. Why are our democratic rights being compromised? Unacceptable!

I am very concerned and agree with the above, . The College must listen to its membership on this matter.

I agree with all of the above and have stated so on the College consultation site.

We deserve open government ;not succession of power . Election of officers is the most democratic way of government .

This is yet again an example of how the College is out of touch with the membership. The Royal College of Dentists of Canada is upset with the Advertising restrictions of their Fellows (Specialists) in BC. The Ontario College has rescinded the boundaries issues as of 2013 as inappropriate and laughs at our Boundaries Statement just invoked in BC by our College. How many times can our College Board and Registrar shoot themselves in the foot with inappropriate legislation before the membership will wake up and get rid of them?

Profoundly antidemocratic and the public is in no way better served.

Colleges are mini governments that have taxation(license fees),legislative(regulations),police( investigators),&court(inquiry, discipline) powers. As such ,they should be governed by the same basic democratic principles as Canadian governments. In BC,when a substantial change to the rules of democratic process, they need a referendum with a super majority of 60%,as witnessed in the 2 failed BC referenda to change the 1st pass the post system. The drastic proposal to exclude outsiders & protect insiders in elections cannot be done by a simple majority of the the board, because BC government would not rubber stamp such a anti-democratic election bylaws or College Goverance Manuel .I urge CDSBC to withdraw this bylaw change proposal, scrap the offending anti-democratic elements in its Goverance Mannul, listen to the government, the public, grassroot dentists & BCDA.A good alternative system to the current system is BCDA or dental societies like VDDS,where only President-elect is for a 2 yrs.term, while the rest are open to any eligible voters who want to run.The beauty of BCDA election & tabulation is done off site to avoid suspicion or accusations of unfairness or manipulations.

More of the same. The College executive is trying to insulate itself from outside criticism and accountability. As a self-governing profession we deserve more than that, and the public as well as the members have the right to exert its influence for the benefit of all

To protect the public interest and that of the members of the profession, in the past 2-3 years, our colleagues at large have had to run various petitions (some organized like this petition) repeatedly against the proposed bylaws by our governing body. This fact represents a disconnect between the CDSBC's current governing body with the public and the profession at large. I do not recall another time in the past where the membership has had to oppose so many proposed bylaws. In my opinion this bylaw if approved, will prove undemocratic and a detriment to public safety and our profession.

Elected positions need to be open to ANY registrant. No governing body should be allowed to block the candidacy of a member of the electorate who wishes to seek office. It is the privilege and responsibility of the electors as a whole to decide whether that candidate is appropriate and qualified for the position.
