Coffee for the North Hub
Petition: Coffee Machine for UQ Medical Students at the North Learning Community Hub (TPCH)
We, the medical students based at the North Learning Community Hub at The Prince Charles Hospital, would like to respectfully ask that the University of Queensland provide a coffee machine, pods and milk for student use, similar to the facilities available at the St Lucia MD Learning Hub.
The North Hub is a major clinical teaching site, and students spend long hours here preparing for tutorials, placements, assessments, and patient care activities. Access to basic amenities such as coffee supports student wellbeing, alertness, and productivity — especially during early‑morning ward rounds, late‑afternoon study sessions, and high‑intensity clinical rotations.
Providing a coffee machine would:
- Ensure parity between UQ sites and maintain consistency with the student support offered at St Lucia
- Improve student wellbeing by reducing fatigue and supporting sustained concentration
- Enhance the study environment, encouraging students to remain on‑site and engaged with the Hub’s learning resources
- Strengthen the sense of community, giving students a valued ammenity to enjoy together
We believe this is a modest, high‑impact investment that would significantly improve the daily experience of students at TPCH and align the North Hub with the standards of other UQ MD learning facilities.
Currently, the powdered coffee offered at TPCH (while good) doesn't satisfy students. Coffee students don't like to or won't drink doesn't provide the same benefits as coffee everyone wants to drink.
We kindly ask the University to consider this request in support of student welfare, equity, and academic performance - and would like to emphasise our gratitude if this was made possible.
Thank you
