Where to begin? All I will say is this: I am proud to have a state college, "soon to be" the University of the Bahamas. Unfortunately, changes must be made before imposing increased tuition and fee charges on students. Be fair with us, and we shouldn't have major problems moving forward.

The College of The Bahamas is not in interest of Bahamians. They are trying to bring down Bahamians. They know it is hard to pay the school fee already and they want to increase it. How I see it is that they only want rich people attending their college. I would like to sit down and have a talk with the 'money-lover' who came up with ridiculous idea about increase.

Yeah ya see... Although I am a Bahamian student, studying in Canada and continuously fighting a battle against high tuition fees and student debt alongside other Canadians in Ontario, I know that this is not the direction the Bahamas should be heading in relations to its primary post-secondary education institution. Because once the increases start they seem to never end. Post-secondary education should be 'publicly funded' not 'publicly assisted'. Does anyone know what the government intends to use the revenue from VAT for? If this passes students will find themselves in greater debt loads and unfortunately, many will take on more part-time work which will ultimately put a great strain on their academic performance and mental health. If the quality of education remains the same we can all agree that this is unacceptable and... to be frank unnecessary. COB students demand to see budgets... Draft alternative budgets for recommendations... Action Now and lobby lobby lobby. Now I know, other external forces against the nation are at play here... But first thing first... Stop this potential hike and ensure that education (which is necessary to be competitive within the labour force) is more accessible for all Bahamians. Otherwise, I fear for the future of our nation.

I understand that the rise in tuition is much needed to assist in "capital development" but a 50% increase,so sudden might I add, is just horrible. Not everyone knows what it's like to pay such high tuition fees because we didn't have the privilege of going to a private institution (Highschool/Primary). I'm positive that the vast majority of COB's student body is made up of former Government school students. It's extremely difficult coming up with money to pay tuition as it and an increase in just "adding insult to injury".
