I assume Rep's Eshoo and Boxer intend this to be a 'good thing' for California but they do not have all the necessary research and info they need to make informed decisions. This National Monument plan is not what it seems and deserves more thorough research. Please give this issue more consideration.

WE have just spent over 1 million dollars to aquire land to protect mountain lions from hwy 17 traffic . So we are now attacking their breeding grounds? Also We are so clogged with traffic why are we inviting more folks to sit in lines of traffic together? We are short on water why invite folks to use what we do not have enough of.?

As a resident of Davenport and as a mother, I have serious misgivings about the negative impacts creating a national monument could create. Traffic, uneducated recreation, the parking lot issue, population increase and water use...We can't even handle the misuse of the beaches up here now. There's no rush! Keep it a Slow Coast movement.

The campaign for a national monument states, "The property’s diverse ecosystems provide habitat for a variety of rare or special-status species like steelhead, coho salmon, red-legged frogs and mountain lions." Why would we want to invite thousands of people to disrupt their habitat? This property and these animals are already protected by the deed restrictions. A national monument will bring NO benefit to the land.

I believe the National Monument status would only serve to increase impact on the flora and fauna in the area, and increase congestion on what is already a dangerous stretch of highway in the tourist season.

As a resident of davenport I am against this happening. the traffic alone would be bad as well as the fact we have not the funds to police this area nor to protect the environment. This area could not handle the amount of visitors it would invite. Wildlife and flora and fauna would suffer as well. Please do not do this.

I am against making this area a national monument. The BLM Laguna trail plan states that without the monument highway 1 congestion will reach level E on a level A-F in 2025. A possible 400, 000 (Fort Ord visitation) visitors coming to the monument will make highway 1 and Mission Street in Santa Cruz impassible.
