I am not inherently opposed to National Monument Designation but I do believe there needs to be a very strong plan (and resources to enforce it) in place to very carefully, gradually allow any potential increased access. I call on those advancing the national monument proposal to ensure that we prevent unintended negative impacts to habitat, water supply and quality, and other impacts to Coast Dairies and the North Coast as a whole. I request that my name be included only with these comments as I believe the path forward is greater cooperation among environmentally concerned individuals, organizations and public agencies.

I oppose making Coast Dairies a National Monument because it will increase traffic (and accidents) in an already congested community. The increase in traffic will significantly increase the need for garbage and graffiti clean-up; something that isn't currently being dealt with routinely and devastates our coast more each day. This will also significantly increase fire danger to an area where many call home.

I suspect that the greater attention granted to the area by the designation of Monument status will have a negative impact on local flora & fauna (most importantly), and also lead to greater development and congestion of the West Side of Santa Cruz.

When people move in, trash the area, inflict permanent scars, it leaves the once pristine, unspoiled area damaged. Enough said. No national monument status for Coast Dairies Public Lands.

Please, a regional approach is essential to ensure that critical inter-relationships are maintained and strengthened. And a detailed environmental study before action is only what we ask of any other land use decision in California.

Given the existing protections that exist for the North Coast, I strongly advise that a management plan be developed prior to considering the designation of a National Monument for the North Coast. Impacts regarding trash, parking, security, environment/natural resources, land use (trails, potential increased fire risk etc) and on housing must be addressed. The potential impacts on housing (Air B-n-B, VRBO, etc) could be considerable and have the significant potential to affect the nature of the north coast community.

Since fundamental land use protections already exist on the Coast Dairies lands, I think it makes sense to have a comprehensive plan in place before seeking a monument designation.
