The impact on the people of santa cruz has not been considered. In conjuction with the other projects on the west side and the already overtaxed traffic and crime control and infrastructure to support the beaches and community it does not seem like the best way to preserve this land.

This is an exceptional stretch of coastal wildlands that supports wildlife and plants that will not be able to flourish with the influx of worldwide tourists. We have many other gorgeous recreational parks in this area. I support leaving this one as pristine as it is currently.

The current public ownership status of these lands is quite sufficient to protect as a grand natural preserve. The effort to upgrade them to "Monument" is just a self-aggrandizing effort by a few with individual vested interests.

I am 30yr north coast resident.
Semperviren land grab and money grubbing is bad, the $200k advert campaign support the Nat'l Monument is bad, none of this takes respecting local residents, nor even the grand scheme of protecting these environs into consideration. This is strictly back room politics and back door big money games. What about the Pescadero $400k of lost school revenues (from property tax) when the last big private parcel was moved from private ownership to not for profit. An extra 100k people trampling through the area? really, that's going to protect the environ? This is not a happy scenario.

Anna and Barbara, you have been good representatives for your constituents over the years. I don't know who or why started the Monument process, but feel it is misguided. My husband's family has had property in the Last Chance area since 1900 and we are lucky to still own a cabin there. Living in Los Altos we understand the drive for saving open space, though don't always agree with what's done. PLEASE listen to those that live in the area and drop the Monument move.

Designated hiking areas is mandatory as well as full time rangers.. if you open thid area to the World wide public.. you must be prepared for the consequences

Hello, I am writing to urge you to rescind your idea that it might be a good idea to make my neighborhood, which is not suited for National Monument status into one. It probably seems like a wonderful idea to you there in your offices in the big city, any piece of land that can be 'saved' but, this land is not suited for public access and is close to many rural residential areas that would suffer from allowing the public to trespass upon our private land. Please, hear us and reconsider. Respectfully, Catherine Bayer (a 40 year neighbor of this property)

It's already protected. There are much more important placed that actually need protection. Also there needs to be a good plan IN PLACE to mitigate the impacts. The costs in terms of impact outweigh the limited and uncertain benefits. Let's wait until we have more experience with the impacts given the current protection.

I live here, and know a National Monument here would be a disaster for the local community. This area is beyond maxed for the existing tourist crush.
