CO Legislators: Let 16 Year Olds Vote in School Board Elections!

I am interested in supporting this idea.

Teenagers need more representation in our government.

I am also a retired education and grandparent of CO students

If we can pay taxes, we can vote! #notaxationwithoutrepresentation

We have a unique perspective and experiences that need to be considered when making decisions. Let us vote!

I am a High School teacher in the state of Massachusetts. I have a friend who works with students of Colorado who shared this petition on Social Media. I think this is a wonderful idea for many reasons; first, there is no one who would have a better insight into what is necessary for the inner workings of any school system than the students themselves, second, high schoolers are passionate about their views in an extremely self-educating way — they make research-backed decisions, and third, it’s wonderful to encourage voting at a younger age at a more localized level to give them a more comfortable introduction into voting and encourage them to continue participating in voting in all elections and break the cycle of young voters participating in just the presidential election.

Young people have powerful experiences and opinions. They have every right to be part of the decisions that impact their education and wellbeing.

Not allowing youth to participate in elections is TAXATION without Representation!

absolutely 16 years need to have a voice about their schools!!

I am a grandparent of seven children in our local school districts. I know that they have invaluable experience and input that all adults, specifically the ones responsible for their education, should heed.

Could be the beginning of a lifetime of involvement in government.

Kids need a voice

I have served 10 years on the Dolores Re-4A School District. Our students have shown more maturity, leadership, and morales far above their parents and other adult members of the community. They have a pulse on what is happening in their school and deserve to be heard by vote.

This is a wonderful way to encourage interest in civic engagement and gather important input from those most impacted by board member selection.

Our students deserve the right to have a voice and a vote in school board elections.

I believe students should have a vote in their school system and what happens.

We are supposed to be teaching our students applicable skills for the real world and whats more real than understanding your voice matters and you can be a deciding factor! This is great as the students are just as affected by the school board as the teachers and administration who works under them!
