There are dozens (if not hundreds) of city owned rinks in North America. This would provide a great facility for the city of Sugarland and surrounding areas to promote youth/adult sports and other events.
It's a proven fact that keeping kids in sports dramatically increases their success both in life and in the classroom - and it keeps them off the streets. Whether the typical Houstonian realizes this or not, hockey / figure skating does exist in the area...come out to a rink on an Saturday and you will see dozens of kids enjoying the sport they love, with smiles from ear to ear.
If there is something we can do to make sure this opportunity remains available...why wouldn't we try?

Dear Sugarland Mayor,
Hockey and figure skating are big draws for families when relocating to the Sugarland and greater Houston communities. Think about how many families move here from places where hockey and skating are a huge part of kids' lives! Many of these families are part of the oil and gas industry (and it's awesome to be able to offer this sports facility to families as a benefit) - to think Houston/Sugarland might lose this facility is just so depressing, especially since Dallas will continue to eclipse Houston when it comes to hockey! I mean really, if we can keep the Texans in Houston after all these years (!), we definitely should be able to keep the Sugarland Ice Rink for the kids here. Plus, girls play great hockey too!!!! I love this rink!!!

this is the worst new ever I have taken on skating and I love it I would not be able to follow my dream because my parents don't have the time to drive me into Houston

My best friend and I practically grew up here, both taking lessons and coming to skate for fun whenever we could drag our parents to the rink. I still frequent the rink and would absolutely HATE to see it shut down.

We come and play hockey games often at Sugar Land Ice rink. It would be a shame to close it down.
