I have skated at this rink since it opened over 20 years ago. I went on to work as a professional hockey referee for over 10 years, came back to become a manager at the facility for over 5 years. It would be a shame to have this facility close. There are so many user groups (hockey, figure skating, public, birthday parties, community events) that includes 1000's of skaters on a continual basis. There is the StarSkater Program that gives so much potential to people with disabilities. This rink could not only be sustainable but could thrive and be profitable with the correct management.

Both my sons play travel ice hockey in Austin and San Antonio. We have played at the Sugar land rink many times. Youth hockey has been a huge part of both my son’s personal deployment. How to work with a team, quick decision making, how to deal with authority, how to be a gracious winner and loser, the list goes on. Not to mention it keeps them out of trouble that is all to accessible to them. This rink needs to stay open for the families that realize these same benefits in the local community. Please don’t let this positive and safe environment go away, it would be a huge mistake.

It breaks my heart that they would shut down ANOTHER skating rink. Where are children suppose to learn? Do they have to move out of state in order to pursue their dreams? Makes me sad.
