Close Lubbock Area Schools for Covid 19

School kids, their teachers, and their fanilies deserve the same protection as Texas Tech students and families.

Proactive decisions are needed. We have healthy students, but we also have students who aren't. Please think about them.

Schools are a primary disease vector, and our children are extremely social and energetic. Staying open will mean more fatalities and catastrophic outcomes in Lubbock. Please look carefully at the very short doubling rate of disease frequency.

This is a global Pandemic. Lubbock won't be skipped. Help us keep our families healthy

Do the right thing — close the schools!

I agree! I have heard of children as young as 3 and old as 90 contracting the virus. It is a great concern.

There are too many "unknowns" about this virus, but what is KNOWN is that it spread very fast and it does claim lives. LISD needs to act responsibly and in an abudance of caution, put off school until we have a realistic knowledge of what we can expect in the next few weeks. Children's health & lives could be at stake & LISD admin should not rely on "what if's".

The coronavirus is in Lubbock. They just aren’t testing properly for it. Keeping school open puts my child at risk of being severely impacted by the virus since he has an immunodeficiency. And I do as well. And his baby brother a heart condition. It could easily kill 3/4 of our family. Don’t act reactionary, by then it will be way too late. Act in a precautionary way and save lives. People like my family need the protection of the community. We never ask for help and we are asking for help now. Help to keep us safe. The vulnerable are not disposable people.

I am a teacher. Closing will make my job much harder. I still think it’s the right thing to do.

Opening too soon is dangerous and careless

Lubbock area school districts MUST follow the example set in other Texas communities to show that they value their staff and students.

As a parent and supporter of LISD I am very concerned about the decision not to close schools after spring break. The only way we can do our part in flattening the curve to keep healthcare systems from being overwhelmed is by social distancing. Children who have Covid-19 night not have symptoms but can still spread it and bring it home to their families. What happens if a parent is sick at home with it? Will the schools allow their child to stay home until the parent is well so they don’t go to school and spread it? Whether or not the district decides to close my children will not be returning after the break.

Lack of testing has led many to have a false sense of security. That there have been no confirmed cases when testing has not occurred does NOT mean that COVID-19 has not already reached Lubbock. Important decisions that potentially impact the health and wellbeing of so many in our community should not be made based on this faulty reasoning.
