Though the Lubbock area has had no recorded confirmed cases of Covid 19, community spread can begin with untested asymptomatic individuals of any age.
Many of our teachers and school staff as well as relatives of our students are immuno-compromised, over age 60 otherwise particularly vulnerable to Covid-19. Extending spring break a week and making school attendance optional thereafter is a start, but it still leaves local educators unprotected. Guidance has been for schools to close between 8 and 20 weeks.
Lubbock might be in time to protect our community if we act now. Schools must be closed, despite the inconveniences, to protect our entire community. #flattenthecueve

The administration in Lubbock continues to ignore the clear danger posed to our teachers and families. This surge in support proves that we refuse to let them gamble with our lives while they pretend this crisis does not exist.

School kids, their teachers, and their fanilies deserve the same protection as Texas Tech students and families.
I’m a mom to a foster baby, 4 year old, 8 year old, and almost 10 year old who was recently diagnosed with asthma! I want to keep all my babies safe! And keep me safe for my babies!! They need me!
Kids present with symptoms atypical of adults and most won’t be detected by current guidelines - which are designed for adults. This puts all of the vulnerable people in their orbits at risk. We need to be responding to what we know WILL happen, not what is happening right now. Do the right thing, keep the kids home. Please.
I am a teacher. Closing will make my job much harder. I still think it’s the right thing to do.
Lack of testing has led many to have a false sense of security. That there have been no confirmed cases when testing has not occurred does NOT mean that COVID-19 has not already reached Lubbock. Important decisions that potentially impact the health and wellbeing of so many in our community should not be made based on this faulty reasoning.
Shut it down
It is time for LISD to step up and be proactive. It is so much better to overreact than be sorry later. If students get sick and spread the disease to family members who are at high risk their blood will be on the hands of decision makers who refuse to act quickly.

I am a physician and am worried about the healthcare system getting overwhelmed. Please take what action you can to help us in the healthcare field maintain our ability to care for you and your loved ones!
